Session DetailsUniversal Acceptance (UA) ensures that all domain names and email addresses, including new gTLDs and internationalized domain names (IDNs), function equally across systems and platforms. While significant technical progress has been made, adoption remains inconsistent across regions, sectors, and digital services.
This session will explore UA not just as a technical issue, but as a policy challenge requiring coordinated action from governments, private sector actors, and the ICANN community. It will examine whether existing ICANN frameworks sufficiently promote UA readiness and what policy interventions are needed to accelerate implementation.
The discussion will highlight experiences from emerging markets, where lack of UA readiness continues to limit digital inclusion, local content development, and access to digital services.Agenda:
